Abstract

ABSTRACT

The patriarchy is a social system in which men hold more power, privileges, and control than women. Brazil is a patriarchal society, and as a result, gender-based violence is a constant reality. Gender-based violence can manifest in various forms, including domestic violence, rape, sexual harassment, femicide, and other forms of physical, psychological, and sexual violence. Despite existing laws in Brazil to protect women from gender-based violence, many cases go unreported or do not result in the conviction of perpetrators. Additionally, the deeply ingrained sexist and misogynistic culture in Brazilian society contributes to the perpetuation of gender-based violence. In this context, this research aims to analyze the reflection of patriarchal culture in Brazil concerning gender-based violence, highlighting historical and legal aspects related to the subject and women's protection. It delves into laws such as Maria da Penha and the Feminicide Law as fundamental measures in combating violence. The methodology employed involves bibliographic analysis through a review of specialized literature on gender and violence against women to understand the complexity of power relations in Brazilian society and their consequences for women. Books, scientific articles, dissertations, and theses on the proposed topic were consulted. In conclusion, historical aspects stemming from patriarchy directly influence violence against women in their gender roles within the Brazilian societal landscape.
