ANÁLISE DO PERFIL DE UM GRUPO DE HIPERTENSOS NO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTA CRUZ NO ESTADO DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE: RESULTADOS DE UMA AÇÃO DE EXTENSÃO

Resumo

INTRODUÇÃO: A hipertensão arterial sistêmica tem origem multifatorial e acomete aproximadamente 25% da população mundial. OBJETIVOS: Analisar o perfil de uma amostra de hipertensos com relação às variáveis: índice de massa corporal (IMC), índice de relação cintura-quadril (RCQ), Glicemiaeeducar a população da cidade no sentido da manutenção de hábitos de vida saudáveis como produto de uma ação em extensão. MÉTODO: Pesquisa transversal, observacional com abordagem quantitativa, realizada na UFRN/FACISA e em praça pública, resultado de uma ação de extensão no município de Santa Cruz-RN. RESULTADOS: Avaliou-se 140 indivíduos de ambos os sexos, onde 95 participantes (68%) foram excluídos por serem considerados normotensos e 45 (32%) participantes foram hipertensos e incluídos. Em relação ao IMC, 80% (n= 36) dos indivíduos hipertensos encontram-se acima do peso ideal. O risco para o desenvolvimento de doenças cardiovasculares na amostra estudada, determinado pelo RCQ, foi alto ou muito alto em 67% da amostra (n= 30). Apenas 7 (16%) indivíduos tiveram níveis glicêmicos elevados. DISCUSSÃO: Os resultados indicam uma relação entre os altos níveis pressóricos com os elevados índices de IMC e RCQ, corroborando com outros estudos. Estudos verificaram que os obesos são mais predispostos a desenvolverem problemas cardiovasculares que indivíduos com o peso normal, sobretudo quando há deposição central de gordura. CONCLUSÃO: A população de hipertensos estudada apresenta altos valores de IMC e RCQ. A maioria dos avaliados não apresentou níveis glicêmicos elevados. As ações de educação em saúde foram consideradas benéficas para comunidade.
